Coronakrise – Klima-Chance
Im Rahmen von Katastrophen-Szenarien ist es relativ typisch, dass sich nicht nur ein Circulus vitiosus auftut, sondern der eine weitere bedingt. So ist gerazu vorhersagbar gewesen, dass die Coronakrise genau jetzt kommt. Der Mensch rückte schon viel zu weit in die Natur vor, nahm den Arten ihren letzten Rückzugsraum, so dass sich nun Zoonosen ausbreiten. So führt die Coronakrise dazu, dass die so unendlich wichtige UN-Klimakonferenz COP26 in Glasgow abgesagt wird! Gleichzeitig lässt die Coronakrise aber auch die Welt innehalten und stellt sie an einen Wendepunkt: soll es es so weitergehen wie zuvor, alles wieder „normal“ werden? – bitte nicht! Soll etwas anders werden? – bitte ja! Denn eines haben wir gesehen: es ist plötzlich sehr viel möglich, wenn es uns dann mal konkret an den Kragen geht!
Von wieviel Todesopfern in Deutschland durch Corona reden wir? Und wieviel Todesopfer gibt es jetzt schon durch Umweltschäden pro Jahr in Deutschland? Allein durch Luftverschmutzung kommt es einer aktuellen Studie zufolge zu doppelt so vielen vorzeitigen Todesfällen als bisher angenommen, mit geschätzten Todesfällen von 125.000 pro Jahr für Deutschland, die sich mit entsprechenden Maßnahmen auf bis zu 55% reduzieren ließe, was zur Klimastabilität betrüge und sich auch ökonomisch rechnen würde. Die Welt steht jetzt am Scheideweg, an der Coronakrise und der dann folgenden Klimakrise zu zerbrechen oder die Chance zu ergreifen, an der Coronakrise zu wachsen und Gelerntes an der unendlich viel bedeutsameren Klimakrise anzuwenden.

In the context of catastrophe scenarios, it is relatively typical that not only one vicious circle opens up, but that another causes one. So it was almost predictable that the corona crisis is coming right now. Humans have advanced far too far into nature, depriving the species of their last retreat, so that zoonoses are now spreading. The corona crisis leads to the cancellation of the infinitely important UN climate conference COP26 in Glasgow! At the same time, the corona crisis also stops the world and puts it at a turning point: should it go on as before, everything will be „normal“ again? – Please do not! – should something be different? – Yes please! Because we have seen one thing: suddenly a lot is possible when it comes to life or death!
How many deaths from Corona in Germany are we talking about? And how many fatalities are there already per year due to environmental damage in Germany? According to a current study, air pollution alone causes twice as many premature deaths as previously assumed, with estimated deaths of 125,000 per year for Germany, which could be reduced to up to 55% with appropriate measures, which would be about climate stability and also economically would count. The world is now at a crossroads, breaking apart at the corona crisis and the subsequent climate crisis, or to grow at the corona crisis and to apply what has been learned to the infinitely more significant climate crisis.
